BreakingPoint Intros Application Protocol for VMware VMotion

Helping Network Equipment Manufacturers and Service Providers test VMware VMotion traffic at speeds of up to 40 Gigabits per second, BreakingPoint has unveiled its so-called “Application Protocol for VMware VMotion.”

Data centers would love to have a solution that provides them with load balancing and resource optimization capabilities. They would also like to have a seamless connection between the old and the new server for easy data transfer. When it comes to testing in these environments, accurate performance and security testing results are a must for the testers.

VMware helps companies migrate to virtual machines between servers while they are actively running. For those NEMs and Service Providers who want to test network device performance in a VMware environment, this is a critical tool. But the legacy test tools come with their own set of limitations and vendors are forced to build an additional infrastructure to emulate application traffic. Designed for virtualized environments, this facility is extremely important validate the performance and security of network devices

“BreakingPoint can replace much of the equipment used for testing with an easy-to-use single device, allowing you to eliminate the cost and time of setting up this complicated network to simulate the VMotion protocol. On top of the BreakingPoint application protocol for VMotion, our support of the NFS and SMB/CIFS protocol also emulates the SAN traffic,” said Mike Hamilton, director of product marketing at BreakingPoint.

The BreakingPoint Application Protocol for VMware VMotion gets rid of the costs and delays of testing a VMware ESX server infrastructure and Storage Area Network when combined with the BreakingPoint Application Protocol for NFS and SMB/CIFS.

Recently, Stonesoft, a provider of integrated network security and resilient connectivity solutions, selected testing tools from BreakingPoint. With this, the company aims to reduce time-to-test for 10-Gigabit firewall and intrusion prevention systems. BreakingPoint’s testing tools is used by the company to test content-aware network security equipments.
