Integration of IBM Tivoli Netcool on Foundry Devices Simplifies Business Operations

Foundry Networks, a provider of end-to-end routing and switching solutions, has teamed up with IBM (News - Alert) for out-of-the-box integration with IBM Tivoli Netcool integration software module. The module facilitates Foundry’s customers (utilizing this module) with simplified operations that will improve business efficiency.

The technology partnership between both the companies enables integration of a variety of Foundry devices with the IBM Tivoli Netcool real-time event- and fault-management solution. The software will manage Foundry’s switches and routers present in the company’s networks, element/network management systems and as well as applications.

IBM Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus is a software application utilized for real-time service management. The software module centralizes and manages complex data centers, network operations centers and IT domains in real time to - augment efficiency and productivity, reduce costs, and optimize service availability and resiliency.

IBM Tivoli Netcool monitors alerts sent by the Foundry’s devices present in the network, thereby providing benefits such as: automated de-duplication of events and alarms in Tivoli Netcool; automated correlation of problem/resolution events in a network; automated advanced correlation along with events pre-classification and intra-device correlation; and as well as informative and descriptive event presentation in Tivoli Netcool software.

The integration of IBM’s Tivoli Netcool software helps in analyzing the root cause of faults in large networks very quickly and thereby enhancing the operational efficiency.

IBM Tivoli Netcool /OMNIbus integration software module can be integrated on the following Foundry products: NetIron XMR Series and NetIron MLX series of MPLS (Multiprotocol Label Switching) routers; BigIron RX layer 3 routing switches; FastIron SuperX and FastIron SX converged switches; FastIron Edge Series and FastIron Edge Series X switches; FastIron GS series switches; ServerIron application delivery switches; and IronPoint WLAN solutions.

Ken Cheng, vice president and general manager for Foundry's high-end and service provider systems business unit, said that the company will be working with other open source software systems vendors as well to deliver integrated and interoperable solutions with its enterprise and service provider switches and routers.

Foundry Networks (News - Alert) also provides enterprise and service provider grade security and Web traffic management solutions. It also offers layer 2/3 LAN switches, layer 3 backbone switches, layer 4-7 application switches, wireless LAN and access points, access routers and metro routers.
