Global Crossing Chooses Vigilos' BrightSite for Security Monitoring

Vigilos, developer of BrightSite remote security guard technology, today released a case study featuring client Global Crossing (News - Alert), a provider of telecommunications solutions over the world's first integrated global IP-based network.

Global Crossing wanted to strengthen its control and audit trails of access to its critical data infrastructure throughout the United States and United Kingdom from its U.K. Security Command Center. Vigilos was charged with providing a globally scalable and flexible security solution to streamline security monitoring and incident response times, reduce distracting false alarms and support security personnel effectiveness.

Viglos' BrightSite enables Global Crossing to tie their card access systems and intrusion detection systems together with existing video surveillance cameras to create visual and transactional records of every card access. These precise and timely log records, which include links to video of the transaction, are stored in the BrightSite database that can be searched, filtered, printed, or exported.

"Using BrightSite has enabled Global Crossing to streamline security across various locations while increasing scalability, reducing false alarms, maximizing security officer productivity and security effectiveness, and securely supporting Global Crossing's multi-billion dollar global business model and network footprint," said Michael Miller, Vice President of Security at Global Crossing.

Global Crossing's core network connects approximately 390 cities in more than 30 countries worldwide, and delivers services to approximately 690 cities in more than 60 countries and 6 continents around the globe. Global Crossing offers a full range of data, voice and security products to more than 35 percent of the Fortune 500, as well as 700 carriers, mobile operators and ISPs.

"Global Crossing, as an international telecommunications market leader, has invested in securing its people, property and customers; providing a powerful example of how a global, multi-billion dollar company can strengthen internal controls over critical data, and achieve cost-effective, one-stop security administration across various sites," said Clifton Sink, CEO of Vigilos.

The customizable rules capabilities of BrightSite allow Global Crossing's security operations staff to configure logical rule triggers from any integrated device, based on their own policies and procedures. The rules can be tailored and fine tuned and alerts are issued only when the pre-configured triggers occur. Using rules, even though all transactions, incidents, and other data are still captured and logged, only those situations that meet the rules' criteria trigger notification and response.

With BrightSite, Global Crossing gained better internal controls over critical data. The company achieved one-stop administration of all card access across the organization using the same cardholder records across various sites. Company auditors liked the audit trail this creates, and more importantly, the security staff now has visual records and searchable logs of all card transactions across the enterprise. Global Crossing's security operations staff now receive only two-to-three events per site, per week -- a 90 percent reduction of false alarm incidents.

Using BrightSite, the Global Crossing staff are able to seamlessly leverage secure, 24/7 real-time universal network monitoring, response, video verification of alarms from its U.K. Security Command Center.
