Business Continuance, Disaster Recovery Top IT Priorities for Next-Gen Data Center Design

Business continuance and disaster recovery are important priorities for the next generation of data center design.

Seventy-nine percent of IT executives are looking to implement 40/100 gigabit Ethernet within the next two years, according to a survey by CABLExpress, a manufacturer of data center and cabling infrastructure solutions.

"We work hard to understand the needs of our customers and this survey reaffirms the go-to-market strategies of CXtec and TERACAI," said Peter Belyea, president of CXtec and TERACAI, in a statement. "This event offers us the opportunity to lend a strong voice to the next-generation data center design approach."

All the surveyed IT executives said they will adopt technologies such as converged data center fabric and higher speeds like 40/100 Gigabit Ethernet. Nearly 79 percent of respondents said they would begin implementation within the next two years, CABLExpress said in its report called “Data Center Executive Survey.”

According to the surveyed participants, business continuance, disaster recovery, backup and maximizing uptime are their top concern as they look to design their next-gen data center infrastructure. They are giving less importance to agility and capital and operational expenses, which were ranked number two and three overall, respectively.

CABLExpress conducted the survey on participants gathered at the annual Data Center Symposium, hosted by CXtec and TERACAI.

Attendees represented companies in the commercial, education, financial services, and healthcare sectors. Representative organizations had an average company size of ten thousand employees. Eighteen percent of those companies are ranked in the Fortune 500 list.

Recently, CABLExpress announced the addition of an H-Series 16-port module and 8-fiber Skinny-Trunk harness to its Skinny-Trunk data center product solution family. Customers can quickly and easily match and replicate their high-density fiber optic switch ports per TIA (News - Alert)-942 data requirements, and have the flexibility to make adds, moves and changes in a convenient manner.
