Recently Joyent, a cloud company, has introduced its open cloud operating system. In order to develop a cloud computing ecosystem where applications can safely and easily be moved, Piston Cloud Computing, Inc., the enterprise OpenStack company, has introduced Piston Enterprise OS (pentOS), an easy, secure and open cloud operating system for managing enterprise private cloud environments.
Joshua McKenty, the building and Betting on OpenStack Piston Cloud CEO and co-founder, was technical lead and cloud architect of NASA's Nebula Cloud Computing Platform, which formed the cornerstone of the OpenStack project. He currently holds an appointed seat on the OpenStack Project Policy Board. Christopher MacGown, co-founder and CTO, was technical lead at Slicehost, acquired by Rackspace (News - Alert)(R) Hosting in 2008. The growing Piston Cloud team boasts experienced engineering talent from NASA and the broader OpenStack developer community.
According to a press release, OpenStack is an open source project in the world, with over 1,550 contributors and 110 participating companies including Rackspace, NASA, Citrix, Intel (News - Alert), Cisco, Arista Networks, Microsoft and Dell. It is proved and ready for enterprise prime time, and Piston Cloud is committed to driving the technology forward as a key member of the community -- sharing knowledge, guidance, vision and code.
"For years I have said that open cloud computing is the future of technology. And in the last year, the OpenStack community has grown substantially and companies like Piston Cloud, that offer enterprises an opportunity to leverage the tremendous benefits of an open cloud environment, are the next natural and important step to realizing the vision of an open cloud,” said Simon Crosby, Bromium CTO and co-founder.
"There has been a groundswell of interest in OpenStack. Piston Cloud has a timely opportunity to innovate and extend the open source cloud operating system, which is already being implemented in some of the world's most notable enterprise organizations,” said Jim Curry, General Manager, Rackspace Cloud Builders.
