New Multi-gigabit Ethernet Switches Bringing the Ruckus

Our digital era demands more. More applications, more connectivity, more bandwidth, etc., and just because you are on the network’s edge doesn’t mean you don’t deserve modern network performance, and multi-gigabit Ethernet.

Recently, Brocade’s (News - Alert) Ruckus unveiled its new family of multi-gigabit Ethernet switches, the Ruckus ICX 7650, to support the rigorous network demands of today, and prepared to tackle the requirements of tomorrow.

The scalable edge family of solutions is more than capable of meeting 802.11ac/802.11ax Wi-Fi, line rate encryption, UHD video streaming and offer a single point of management. Touting support for 100 Gigabit Ethernet, this is the first family of fixed configuration switches capable of doing so. In addition, the release boasts the highest density for IEEE (News - Alert) 802.3bz Ethernet and the most IEEE 802.3bt-ready ports available as of the time of this writing.

“As more wireless users access cloud and data-intensive applications on their devices, the demand for high-speed, resilient edge networks continues to increase,” said Siva Valliappan, vice president of switching product management, Ruckus. “The innovative technology behind the ICX (News - Alert) 7650 switch family captures all these requirements, enabling users to scale and future-proof their network infrastructure to meet the increasing demand of wired and wireless network requirements for the next seven to ten years.”

Diving into the weeds a bit, the announcement includes three members of the ICX 7650 family. The ICX7650-48P high-performance gigabit switch offers a secure, scalable and plug-and-play solution. The ICX7650-48ZP multi-gigabit Access switch offers 24 multi-gigabit ports, 90 W of PoE power and 24 ports of gigabit Ethernet to support PoE+. The third new family member is the ICX7650-48F core/aggregation switch is packed with 48 fiber ports – half 1G and half 10G – each with L3 features in addition to 256-bit MACsec line rate encryption.

“The new Ruckus ICX 7650 switch expands Ruckus’ offering in multi-gigabit Ethernet switching, delivering more multi-gigabit ports, higher performance with up to 100G uplinks and more PoE power to support high density wireless deployments, including future Wi-Fi standards such as 802.11ax and beyond,” said Nolan Greene, senior research analyst, enterprise networks, IDC.

Network modernization is no longer a nicety, the move to multi-gigabit Ethernet is a necessity in our SaaS (News - Alert)-tastic, HD, always plugged-in, always-on world. What are you waiting for?
