Samsung (News - Alert) SDS and SAP have teamed up to provide enterprise cloud systems to customers in the Asia-Pacific region. Samsung SDS, the IT service wing of Samsung Electronics, will offer cloud systems tailored for SAP (News - Alert) solutions and applicable in the finance, sales and purchase areas of business.
The announcement follows a string of enterprise cloud partnerships from Samsung, including collaboration with IBM (News - Alert) last month to provide security services to customers in the energy and utility industries. Samsung will offer IBM’s X-Force Exchange cloud-based threat intelligence sharing platform through the deal. Last month Samsung also announced it will purchase enterprise cloud services company Joylent, which will operate as an independent subsidiary.
The partnerships signal a key trend as traditional tech players continue to embrace the enterprise cloud. Just this week, Oracle (News - Alert) and Fujitsu announced a significant partnership through which Oracle cloud application and platform services will be delivered to Japanese customers. Fujitsu (News - Alert) plans to install Oracle Cloud services in its Japanese data centers and connect them to its own Cloud Service K5 to deliver enterprise cloud services to its customers. Initial service will include Oracle’s Human Capital Management Cloud with plans to extend offerings to include additional services like Oracle’s Database Cloud.
“In order to realize the full business potential of cloud computing, organizations need secure, reliable and high-performing cloud solutions,” said Edward Screven, chief corporate architect at Oracle. “For over three decades, Oracle and Fujitsu have worked together using our combined R&D, product depth and global reach to create innovative solutions enabling customers to scale their organizations and achieve a competitive advantage. Oracle’s new strategic alliance with Fujitsu will allow companies in Japan to take advantage of an integrated cloud offering to support their transition to the cloud.”
Samsung’s announcement with SAP builds on the companies’ existing relationship, as Samsung Electronics, Samsung SDS and affiliates have all used SAP solutions to build their ERP systems and want to extend that functionality to their enterprise cloud offerings.
"We are proud to announce our partnership with Samsung SDS in enterprise cloud, one of SAP's core services," said Bernd Leukert, member of the executive board for SAP's Products & Innovation. "Through diverse solutions designed for various lines of business, we will further support our customers and partners in establishing a solid foundation for cloud environment."
