Don't Be a Sitting Duck - Learn How to Monitor Security Threats on Your Network

The Internet is a wonderful thing, but not without its problems. We love being instantly connected to find the products we want, connect with those who deliver value, access information and stream entertainment. Unfortunately, to have this kind of access also means we’re exposed to threats.

Many groups exploit Internet connections and networks to gain access to information that leads to profit. A number of attempts at hacking have been blocked over the years. But, as we can see in the media, a number have also been successful, putting all of us at risk.

Fortunately, we’re not without access to tools to help strengthen cyber security. CyberFlow Analytics is one company trying to make it much harder for hackers to gain access to networks and information. The company offers FlowScape software, designed to deliver continuous cyber threat security assessment and monitoring at scale. The software is focused on the detection of Advanced Persistent Threats (APTs) and cyber breaches for enterprise security and the Industrial Internet of Things.

The company was recently on hand at ITEXPO and one of its leaders, Mitch Radpour, sat down with Rich Tehrani (News - Alert) in the TMC newsroom to talk about cyber security and what the company is doing in the marketplace. FlowScape is offering companies promise as it isn’t putting a lock on the network. Instead, it’s allowing for the creation of a baseline so when suspicious activity occurs, the software detects it before it becomes a major problem.

Radpour explains, “I also like to compare it to a football game. They have offensive team and defensive team and you have to match every move they make. Yes you need firewalls or whatever you have but you also need analytics these days because people learn how to get through them. We aren’t talking about a very sophisticated attack, advanced persistence threat. You’re data can only handle three months of data before they archive it and your data system would go crazy trying to mine all that data. The amount of data would be huge so you need analytics to weave through all of those. We can go in and say ‘don’t worry about this one, look at this one.’”

The solution can also detect location, so if you have activity on your network coming from somewhere it shouldn’t be, FlowScape will pick up on that activity and issue an alert.
