Cryptzone Releases New Module for Security Sheriff

Cryptzone, a developer of security software for Web development applications, recently announced that it has added a new module to its Security Sheriff software. The Site Module leverages the Microsoft (News - Alert) Retail Management System (RMS) to allow users to share sensitive Microsoft SharePoint 2010 and 2013 data.

The key to the Site Module’s operation is its ability to determine which individuals are allowed to access certain files without having to change permissions on the files themselves. It notes the file permissions already established in RMS and uses that information to decide which individuals are allowed to send such files to one another. Along the way, it also encrypts that information to keep it from falling into the wrong hands.

Jason Garbis, the vice president of products at Cryptzone, commented on how sharing data is important to the use of SharePoint but that controlling data access becomes a necessary part of that process.

“Sharing is key to the SharePoint value proposition, but dynamically controlling who information can be shared with is critical to minimizing the risk of that information falling into the wrong hands,” Garbis said. “Security Sheriff enhances SharePoint security by adding very fine-grained security to control who can access content, as well as control how they can distribute that content both within the organization and with third parties.”

He continued by mentioning that Site Module takes care of permissions both inside and outside an organization. Often, it is necessary to determine which files are OK to send to outside parties, so the module can note those types of permissions and allow sharing with third parties.

First and foremost, the changes that have been made to Security Sheriff begin with its ability to encrypt data. It can encrypt and protect content with digital rights management. It also has the ability to add fine-grained control to actions allowed on files, such as printing and saving. Individual users can also now email documents directly from the SharePoint library to contacts inside and outside their organizations.

The module also creates logs that follow each individual’s actions. This way, businesses can audit their actions and see which individuals have completed specific tasks. Finally, it allows for the separation of roles – such as editors and activators – to determine which administrators are allowed to alter employee file access permissions. It intends to provide simple management of all files and user permissions for the ease of use and protection of any organization.
