Bel Power Solutions Partners with Cosel

Electricity is often an unsung hero in the performance of data centers. All those grid sectors, generators and many other sources of power mostly run in the background and hence, an average person often doesn’t grasp the importance of power in a data center.

But for companies who are in this field, power is an invaluable source. To provide more power to data centers, Bel Fuse (News - Alert) Inc. has partnered with Japan-based Cosel, Co., LTD, to license specific digital power technology (DPT) patents to Cosel. This will enable Cosel, a provider of ultra-small AC-DC power supplies, DC-DC converters and noise filters, to use the newly licensed DPT to manufacture numerous mounted power supply solutions.

Data centers can optimize their power conversion efficiency with the help of digital power architecture. They can also reduce power bills and manage their power issues more efficiently then every before. DPT enables engineers to better design important elements as it allows the system to pinpoint its power consumption and thermal performance.

Bel acquired the DPT patents through its acquisition of the Power-One (News - Alert)'s Power Solutions business from ABB Ltd. The company's products include magnetics (discrete components, power transformers and MagJack connectors with integrated magnetics) and modules (DC-DC converters and AC-DC power supplies, integrated analog front-end modules and custom designs).

Dan Bernstein, president and CEO of Bel, stated, "Our DPT patent license agreement with Cosel underscores the value of Bel's technology patents and exemplifies our commitment to encouraging innovation by licensing access to our patent portfolio. We look forward to working with Cosel and continuing to provide energy-efficient technologies with increased functionality for our customers worldwide."

Bel acquired Power-One's Power Solutions business from ABB Ltd for approximately $117 million on a cash and debt-free basis. The business has manufacturing facilities in Shenzhen, China and Dubnica nad Vahom, Slovakia.
