Workers' Credit Union Implements DigitalPersona Solutions

Using the DigitalPersona Pro with U.are.U 4500 Fingerprint Reader solution, Workers’ Credit Union is hoping to authenticate its employee identities and also to increase security, remove password resets and streamline workflow which in turn should lead to gains in productivity and customer service.

Dave Thibodeau, vice president of information technology at Workers’ Credit Union, remarked, “With DigitalPersona’s solution, we have improved our workflow and our customer service, as we now have more time to focus on serving our members rather than remembering and inputting lengthy passwords. It has also enhanced our security since the solution provides an audit trail that tells us who accesses what information.”

Credit unions and community banks that use password-based authentication for enabling access to financial information face a lot of drawbacks – passwords which are based on alphanumeric and special characters can be shared, written down or left in the open, which creates the potential for fraud. In order to ensure maximum security, IT departments have to pressure employees to have long passwords and also to change them often which would lead to employees forgetting their passwords or even mistype them – a situation that would distract IT personal from more critical business-driven activities.

WCU wanted software to automate password resets, but ultimately determined that implementing biometrics-based technology would be easier for both its employees and back office administrative staff.

The aforementioned DigitalPersona solutions implemented at over 15 branches of the WCU across North America will hereon deliver biometrics-based technology to confirm positive identity of employees when accessing online applications and websites.

DigitalPersona Pro Enterprise is a multi-factor authentication and access management solution that is designed to deliver a cost-effective method to control access to one’s systems and also lets users add strong authentication over existing password-based applications as needed, without changing the apps themselves.

The U.are.U 4500 fingerprint reader solution is designed to work in tandem with DigitalPersona Pro and utilizes optical fingerprint scanning technology for superior image quality and product reliability.
