Digital Realty Trust partners with Level 3 Communications

Digital Realty Trust, Inc., a company providing data center solutions, recently announced that it has signed an agreement with Level 3 Communications (News - Alert), Inc., to connect to its customers in 14 major markets in the U.S. and Europe. Level 3 will provide secure, high-performance private network access to Digital Realty customers through its Cloud Connect Solutions. As a result, Digital Realty customers will be able to migrate and operate business-critical applications in a hybrid cloud environment, allowing them to centralize IT management and respond to changing business needs.

Level 3 Cloud Connect Solutions provide private network access to leading cloud and data center services to deliver critical enterprise applications and information with greater performance, security, and flexibility than the public Internet or other networks. Level 3 Cloud Connect Solutions offer multiple ways to connect enterprises with cloud and data center services including MPLS/IPVPN, Virtual Private Line Service, Ethernet Virtual Private Line, Ethernet Private Line and Wavelength services.

With the solutions from Level 3, Digital Realty customers can access bandwidth dynamically, making them able to scale the connections based on each customer's needs.  Also, customers only need to pay for what they consume, resulting in reduction in costs.

"We are proud to bring Digital Realty into our Cloud Connect Solutions ecosystem. It affords both Digital Realty customers and Level 3 enterprise and government customers greater utility as they migrate their applications to cloud environments," said Anthony Christie, chief marketing officer of Level 3. "By providing a seamless bridge between Level 3 Cloud Connect Solutions and Digital Realty data centers, we can help organizations transform and scale their IT and networking architecture. Enterprises need that level of performance when connecting to the cloud."

In related news, Level 3 Communications recently announced that Microsoft (News - Alert) Corporation’s Windows Azure has selected its Cloud Connect solutions to develop fast, secure and reliable cloud services. By bypassing the public Internet, they aim to provide large global enterprises with a tool that allows them to reap the benefits of cloud computing and storage to boost productivity and growth. This allows businesses to significantly reduce the costs of international collaboration and smoothly transition between IT environments, data centers and corporate networks.
