Wheelings & Dealings: Dimension Data Expands US Operations with Acquisition of Nexus

Founded in South Africa in 1983, Dimension Data (News - Alert) has been supplying the world with top quality services in the field of information and communication technology. After 15 years of service, the company made one of its first moves toward expansion by acquiring a South African competitor, Plessey South Africa, and ever since 1998 the company has steadily made gains, acquiring competitors across the world and expanding their business to a global level. In their path to becoming a major hitter in the United States market, Dimension Data has announced that they have now also acquired California-based Nexus.

Nexus was founded in 2004 in Valencia, and until now had remained a privately owned company providing IT services to clients across sectors.

"The acquisition of Nexus is a significant strategic step in enhancing the Group's geographic coverage and depth of skills and capabilities to support our clients,” Brett Dawson, CEO of Dimension Data, said regarding the acquisition. “For over three decades, Dimension Data has been building expertise and experience in ICT solutions and services that deliver real business value to our clients. Nexus increases our ability to support both our US-based and global clients with significant West Coast presence."

Nexus will most definitely be expanding Dimension Data’s coverage, with it’s 19 offices spread throughout California, Nevada, Colorado, Arizona, Utah, Washington, Texas, Georgia, Florida and North Carolina. This will increase Dimension Data’s US coverage by 40 percent, and give the company a stronger presence in the US West, Southwest and Southeast regions.

The acquisition is being viewed as a confirmation of Nexus’ and its employees ability to provide advanced IT services. Nexus CEO Deron Pearson will be remaining in his role, working under Mark Slaga, CEO of Dimension Data Americas. The President and COO of Nexus, Waheed Choudhry, will also continue in the daily operation of the company.

The employees of Nexus will be joining a company known for being an excellent employer. In January 2014, Dimension Data was placed in Achievers 50 Most Engaged Workplaces for 2013. They were given this prestigious award by a panel of 14 judges using the eight standards. The award demonstrates Dimension Data’s place as an organization that pushes innovation and employee engagement.
