NetApp Launches FAS8000 Series Scale-out Enterprise Storage Systems

Organizations are migrating to cloud computing in large numbers as the one issue that prevented them from doing so before has been much improved, security. While there is no 100 percent guarantee regarding security in the IT world, organizations have to come to terms with this fact and are now using the technology to make them more efficient across the board with the flexibility to scale without the expenses associated with on premise infrastructure.

The move to the cloud means managing the large amount of data being generated across all their touch points and the next issue they are tackling is managing the data across private and public clouds. NetApp, creator of storage and data management solutions, has developed a new storage solution that allows single storage and data management platform in unbound cloud with a unified scale-out storage system and virtualization software for the unbound cloud era.

The new FAS8000 series scale-out enterprise storage systems are designed to simplify and get rid of complex upgrades as the needs of the organization's IT needs change with a powerful and feature-rich storage system.

Combined with the company's FlexArray virtualization software, NetApp V-series, it allows the FAS8000 to virtualize and manage multi-vendor data storage platforms so organizations can have software-defined storage with the option of being licensed. With this solution organizations are able to scale out operations seamlessly and managed data across private and public cloud environments consistently without disruption.

The features of the NetAppFAS8000 series include:

  • The first enterprise storage system to unify SAN, NAS and storage virtualization into a single hybrid array
  • FAS platform designed specifically for scale-out storage environments built on clustered Data ONTAP
  • The software enables the FAS8000 to virtualize and manage third-party arrays and delivers a nine-month payback guarantee
  • FlexArray virtualization software enables existing storage to be managed by Data ONTAP for a greater return on investment and makes legacy storage cloud-ready.
  • The new release of clustered Data ONTAP, version 8.2.1, extends non-disruptive operations (NDOs) and improves data security and management of CIFS environments.

As the CTO of Photobucket (News - Alert) Michael Clark stated, the new FAS8000 systems and clustered Data ONTAP allows his company continuous operations of their cloud-based services in which 14 billion images and videos are accessed with 5 million uploads daily.

"As they adapt their IT operations to improve service delivery and embrace cloud mandates, CIOs recognize the advantages of shared storage infrastructures. Our new FAS8000 series and enhanced software offerings allow customers to respond quickly to changing business needs, move seamlessly to an era of unbound clouds, and eliminate the overprovisioning of people, time, and money," said George Kurian, Executive Vice President, Product Operations, NetApp.

The FAS8000 enterprise storage systems, FlexArray virtualization software, and clustered Data ONTAP 8.2.1 are available today.
