Mentor Graphics' New ATP is now GENIVI 5.0 Compliant

In-vehicle infotainment (IVI) is the next step in the evolution of the automobile industry with more and more car makers looking to add advanced capabilities to the car's entertainment options. To cater to these needs of the consumer as well as the car makers, many companies are coming up with the technology platforms, hardware and other accessories.

One such company is Mentor Graphics, a specialist in providing software solutions for electronic, semiconductor and automobile industries around the world. Its latest offering is an Automotive Technology Platform (ATP (News - Alert)) for IVI systems that are based on Linux operating system. The ATP delivers high performance graphics since it is an instrumented platform that goes from the kernel layer to the graphics layer. Also, the platform is designed to offer a smooth UI for users as it constantly measures the update frame rate. Further, the system is compatible with the latest UI technologies such as HTML 5 and QT and this is added advantage for developers.

This ATP is also compliant with GENIVI 5.0, a standard that lays down the specifications for IVI open-source development platforms. The objective of GENIVI is to create an open-source platform that consists of a Linux-based core, middleware and application layer for different interfaces. Through this objective, GENIVI encourages developers to create applications that are compliant with guidelines. It also sponsors technical and compliance programs from time to time. Mentor Graphics (News - Alert) ATP meets all these guidelines with its Freescale I.MX6, Texas Instruments OMAP 5 and Renesas R-CAR H1. One of its reusable component is the virtual BSP that is designed for host-based development and testing. Also, the use of OMAP 5 by Texas Instruments (News - Alert) enhances the reusability aspect and at the same time, helps ATP to use the rich processing and graphics performances of this platform.

For all these reasons, the ATP platform by Mentor Graphics is expected to be a platform on which advanced system will be created for IVI Systems.
