HGST's s800 SSDs Deployed in Verizon Cloud Servers

By leveraging HGST’s s800 Series Serial Attached SCSI (SAS (News - Alert)) enterprise-class solid-state drives (SSDs) deployed in its cloud servers, the new Verizon Cloud is now being able to offer a high-performing, highly reliable solid-state storage on a scalable platform to large enterprises and SMBs.

HGST, a Western Digital (News - Alert) company, asserted that its sTec s800 Series SAS SSDs are an engineered family of solid-state drives (SSDs) that outperform conventional hard disk drives by eliminating the bottlenecks associated with rotating media to take sustainable IOPS performance to new levels.

The Verizon Cloud service lets users make use of secure cloud storage to wirelessly back up and sync the content on their mobile device and also ensure that their content is available virtually anywhere they want to access, or manage it. Now Verizon (News - Alert) Cloud makes use of HGST SSDs’ high speeds, range of capacities, and reliability to meet the users' needs for performance, flexibility and data security.

Steve Campbell, chief technology officer of HGST, said, “Verizon’s selection of the s800 Series for Verizon Cloud validates HGST’s critical role in cloud computing and enterprise storage. Our solid-state storage solutions are enabling new cloud architectures, whereby traditional data centers are giving way to software-defined and flash-driven storage and hardware consolidation, delivering maximized per-user performance more efficiently.”

HGST exclaimed that a single 2.5-inch s800 Series SAS SSD replaces large numbers of enterprise HDDs while delivering superior performance and data persistence, instant backup and recovery in the event of an unplanned power failure. Through advanced signal processing and flash management algorithms, it can extend the life and endurance of flash media.

Verizon admitted that HGST’s reputation for high-performance and reliable SSDs fit its vision and assure that Verizon Cloud has a solid foundation.

In related news, NetApp and Verizon recently teamed on software-defined storage solutions for the new Verizon Cloud and HGST joined Open Compute Project to help define best practices for data center storage.
