Avago Technologies recently introduced a new automotive 2.5A smart gate drive optocoupler device called the ACPL-32JT.
Officials said that the device can be used in automotive powertrain traction inverter, power converter, battery charger, air conditioner and oil pump motor drive for electric vehicle, hybrid electric vehicle and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle applications.
ACPL-32JT simplifies automotive multichannel IGBT driver board design. It includes an integrated flyback controller that supports regulated output voltage and a complete set of fail-safe IGBT diagnostics, protection and fault reporting in support of automotive functional safety requirements.
Wide Input Voltage Range, from 8 to 18 V, Compact SO-16 Package Minimizing PCB Board Space and Cost as well as Wide Operating Temperature Range: -40oC to +125oC are some of the other features of the product.
With the help of the new device, automotive power module designers are able to develop highly compact, energy-efficient, six-channel IGBT driver modules.
The integration of the flyback controller puts the ACPL-32JT in a position to allow fewer discrete components and small high-efficiency transformer to be placed next to the IC. This helps reduce the overall footprint and minimize electromagnetic interference and noise coupling between the IGBT channels.
In a statement, Cheng-Dee Lee, director of business development for Avago's Isolation Products Division, said, "The new ACPL-32JT device is our solution for customers looking for a compact smart gate driver that enables isolated power supplies to meet the stringent size and safety requirements for automotive powertrains."
Company officials confirmed that samples and production quantities of the ACPL-32JT are available through the Avago direct sales channel and via worldwide distribution partners.
