B&W Pantex Implements Denodo Platform in Its Facility

B&W Pantex has announced that with the Denodo (News - Alert) data virtualization tool deployed in its facility, it has managed to securely deliver weapon lifecycle information with minimal replication to engineers, scientists and other users.

B&W Pantex is the National Nuclear Security Administration’s (NNSA) production integrator and provider of the nuclear deterrent to the Department of Defense and with Denodo platform, it has not only managed to finish projects with quicker and maximized data security, but also realized reduced maintenance costs and project cycle times.

Stefanie Elsea, program information technologist at B&W Pantex commented, “Serving the Nuclear Security Enterprise through a highly reliable combination of people, processes, infrastructure and business systems, the Pantex Plant is charged with securing America by providing services that focus on four core missions: national security, nuclear explosive operations, nuclear material operations, and high explosive operations. With a long-term mission of safely and securely maintaining the nation’s nuclear weapons stockpile and dismantling weapons retired by the military, our data virtualization strategy plays an important role in expediting projects by enabling fast and secure movement of data through different facilities.”

Denodo Technologies also said that its platform delivers vital capabilities for data virtualization and enterprise data services. For example, it enables faster access and agile delivery of complex and siloed data as secure virtualized linked data services with high performance through a unified data layer.

The Pantex plant was looking for tools that could help it maintain the nuclear weapons stockpile. The maintenance process involved several tasks like weapon dismantlement, surveillance testing, and disposal of nuclear and non-nuclear material.

With Denodo data virtualization, the Pantex plant was able to ensure timely delivery of data with minimal replication. The Denodo platform also makes sure that the information is fresh from the source of truth, balanced with performance and it is also capable of merging disparate data to derive meaningful new business data services. More specifically, Pantex was able to attain a 15 percent return on investment in just three months of running in production.
