NTT Communications (News - Alert) Corporation recently announced that its subsidiary, Gyron Internet Limited, will be setting up a third data center, UK Hemel Hempstead. The rising requirements for scalable and reliable colocation services from customers will be addressed by the latest data center, which will increase NTT Communications' server room area in the U.K. by 100 percent.
The latest data center will be situated at a 38,500-square meter site, near the two Gyron data centers, which are functioning in Hemel Hempstead, northwest of London. The latest facility, expected to be operational from spring 2015, will provide nearly 10,000 square meters of server room.
The facility aims to accomplish a power usage effectiveness or PUE of less than 1.2 by leveraging highly developed green technology for cooling, like end wall injection air conditioning, water-side economization and chimney racks for ejecting heat. For the first time, a data center in the U.K. will deliver a choice of a chillerless cooling system, thereby making available nearly 30 percent additional energy capacity for ICT systems with no extension of the power system. NTT Com's environmental load will be further decreased by the facility, which will utilize rain water in the air conditioning, produce electricity from solar panels, and advantageously utilize the heat from the server paraphernalia to warm office areas during winter.
The facility’s modular design perception will ensure scalability of electric power, air conditioning and communication equipment in all server rooms. Customers will also be offered Tier IV upgrades as per their needs. The facility will also put in place protection features like a four-meter-high peripheral fence, barriers against vehicle attacks and fire-prevention gear in all modules.
The latest facility will be connected to other NTT Com data centers with high-speed, first-class networks, thereby facilitating affordable, low-latency access required for successfully delivering a hybrid cloud environment which brings together on-premises systems, colocation and NTT Com’s Enterprise Cloud. NTT Com will now be able to provide additional server equipment and virtual servers for customers, extending their business in a swift and simplified manner. The latest facility at Hemel Hempstead will allow NTT Com to address the technology, media and telecom industries’ requirement for hybrid cloud services.
