Zixi Partners with JVC

The 2013 International Broadcasting Convention in Amsterdam witnessed the birth of a new partnership between Waltham, Massachusetts-based Zixi, LLC and JVC Americas Corporation. The two will be partnering on a new mobile, IP-network-based platform for professional video cameras. The immediate focus will be on integrating cloud-based networking features into JVC ProHD cameras. What once took separate devices to operate will now be integrated into a single camera, the wireless-ready JVC GY-HM650 ProHD mobile news camera.

In the past, crews had to use several devices, such as encoders, wireless setups, and video transport devices to operate on location. With Zixi integrated into the new camera, now, all it will take is connecting to the internet through Wi-Fi and transferring high-quality video through the Zixi video transport system. The partnership with Zixi will make it possible for JVC cameras to transfer quality video, without worrying about distance, packet loss, or quality.

Edgar Shane, the general manager of engineering at JVC Professional Products, a division of JVC Americas Corp., is enthusiastic about this news: “With Zixi built into JVC's flagship GY-HM650 ENG camcorder, we offer robust video transport solutions, including video switching and transcoding in the cloud, adaptive bit rates and advanced error correction. Zixi's delivery engine dramatically improves quality of HD video streams under difficult network conditions and provides reliable delivery via a single 4G LTE (News - Alert) modem connected to the camera, without requiring any additional equipment.”

Zixi is also unveiling a new cloud delivery service called Zixi Ramp, and it will be compatible for use with the JVC GY-HM650 camera. The new video camera can access the Zixi Ramp by entering an IP address and then be capable of live, direct-to-website broadcasts.

Israel Drori, president and co-founder of Zixi, LLC, is equally excited to be working with JVC, welcoming them in a recent statement, calling them a “world leader in the professional camera market.” This partnership, she says, “will revolutionize and re-define the term ‘live camera.’” Drori believes that the Zixi-enabled GY-HM650 will open up new market opportunities that were never before possible.
