Recently, the Blue Jay Wireless, LLC has got green signal in the form of an approval from the Public Utilities Commission, to petition for designation as an eligible telecommunications carrier within the state.
This approval means Hawaii is now allowing Blue Jay Wireless to provide discounted cellphone service to eligible residents of Hawaii under the federal Lifeline Program.
"The approval in Hawaii is great and exciting news for us," states Blue Jay president and CEO David Wareikis. "Hawaii has one of the lowest program participation rates in the U.S. due largely to its very limited availability, which we fully intend to bring to the eligible residents of this beautiful state." The Lifeline Program designed particularly for low-income Americans, came in to force in 1985 under the Reagan administration. This program is designed to ensure that all low-income Americans should have phone access to connect to jobs, family and emergency services.
The Lifeline program is only applicable to eligible low-income consumers, and this program allows only one Lifeline phone per household. Eligibility criteria may vary by state. Customers who qualify for Blue Jay Wireless’ Lifeline program will receive a free mobile handset. Basic calling features include caller ID, call waiting, three-way calling and call forwarding.
