Wasabi Productions recently unveiled a storybook app titled Gorilla Band, just in time for back-to-school season. The company also confirmed that 10 percent of the money earned from the sale of the Gorilla Band app will be contributed to the not-for-profit VH1 Save The Music Foundation. The donated money will be used by the charity foundation in reinstating instrumental music education programs in public schools across the country. The foundation also aims to enhance awareness regarding the value of music in every child's complete education.
Music is considered to be a vital component of an all-encompassing education. Music assists with proficiency in literacy as astute sounds promote phonological knowledge, or understanding of the sound composition of language. Music also improves the process of learning. Music cultivates an individual’s incorporated sensory, thought, cognitive, emotional and motor capabilities, which are important for learning.
In a statement, Paul Cothran, vice president and executive director of the VH1 Save The Music Foundation, said, “We are grateful to Wasabi Productions for their generous support of our cause. It is exciting to see how technology can further complement education and help students develop their appreciation for music.”
The Gorilla Band story revolves around the reader. The story, which features a dynamic 3D jungle set, moves ahead as per the interactions from the user. The app features innovative animations, an assortment of originally scored instrumental tracks, two songs, a dance and an educational studio. Readers can therefore discover various instruments by sound and name.
The storybook shows gorillas learning piano and violin at Jungle Music School. As part of the story, gorillas are unexpectedly introduced to tunes from other rock star jungle musicians. After hearing the tunes, the gorillas not only form a band but also excitedly pen songs with everything from drums to double bass.
Graham Nunn, creative director for Wasabi, said, “At its heart Gorilla Band is a memorable story with a strong moral outtake, and it gives families and schools the ability to expose children to music with authenticity and ease.” Wasabi Productions unveiled the Gorilla Band app, priced at $3.99, for iPad, iPhone (News - Alert) and iPod Touch on August 15.
