Johnson Controls Supplies Air Cooling System to NextFort for Chandler, AZ Data Center

NextFort Ventures Chandler has announced the selection of Johnson Controls as the supplier of a free air cooling system, being deployed at its new 180,000-square-foot data center in Chandler, AZ.

The company said it worked closely with Johnson Controls to develop the system. It is the owner and operator of a first-of-its-kind modular data center located in Chandler, Arizona, focused on the design, construction and operation of energy-efficient, modular and ultra secure data centers.

The NextFort high-density computing suite (NextFort HCS) is a completely self-contained, all concrete and steel room designed to house up to 20 high-density IT racks for a total IT load of up to 225KW.

The cooling system is deployed in each NextFort HCS, which contributes to almost 40 percent better energy efficiency. Company officials said this cuts down energy costs for the company’s customers.

The air cooling system, featuring Johnson’s York Equipment compressor, does not require water. Featuring variable-speed fans and compressor capacity technology, each cooling system drives effective cooling. Moreover, according on the outside temperature, customers can use varying amounts of outside air, up to 100 percent, to supplement cooling capacity and save energy, said company officials.

The machine also provides the advantage of individual control associated with innovative free air cooling capabilities, which is likely to scale from 0-100 percent depending on the individual needs of a customer's environment.

The cooling system allows the customers to deploy two cooling units for a 2N redundant configuration. Also, they can add more as the power density increases inside the HCS.

Company officials said the system controls allow customers to view and operate their cooling system remotely through a secure customer portal.

Earlier this month, Johnson Controls showcased its latest seating, electronics, interior and battery products.
