Veeco Instruments (News - Alert), a company that provides MOCVD, MBE, Ion Beam and other advanced thin film process technologies, announced that china-based KaiStar Lighting, Ltd. KaiStar, a joint venture between Epistar Corporation and Shenzhen Kaifa Technology, has selected its multi-and single-chamber TurboDisc MOCVD Systems for its 2013 capacity expansion plan.
TurboDisc MOCVD Systems include TurboDisc MaxBright MHP GaN MOCVD Multi-Reactor System, which is the new, modular high performance system. It provides excellent yield, with as much as 20 percent within-wafer wavelength uniformity improvement over the MaxBright. Higher yields are achieved from hardware advancements that result in improved wavelength uniformity across all wafers.
MJ Jou, President of Epistar Corporation said, “This latest capacity expansion in Xiamen is in keeping with our goal to maximize our position in the China LED backlighting, automotive and general illumination market. Since we originally selected Veeco as our MOCVD equipment supplier for KaiStar a year ago, we have been extremely impressed with the product quality, service and support we have received. A critical deciding factor has been Veeco’s quick process transfer which is important as we share know-how across our LED manufacturing sites. In addition, the TurboDisc’s low cost-of-ownership made it a straight-forward decision to turn to Veeco as we add more tools for KaiStar in 2013.”
The MaxBright MHP also provides lower cost of ownership as compared to the MaxBright. This system leverages Veeco’s production-proven Uniform FlowFlange technology and automation expertise by combining multiple high throughput MOCVD reactors in a modular 2 or 4-reactor cluster architecture. The improved reactors, based on Veeco’s highly-successful K465i design, feature expanded wafer capacity and advanced, proprietary and closed-loop thermal control technology.
Bill Miller (News - Alert), Executive Vice President of Veeco, commented, “We are pleased to support Epistar and Kaifa as they continue to expand their leadership position in the China market through KaiStar and their other joint ventures. We will remain focused on helping them to achieve their manufacturing goals.”
