Courtagen Life Sciences, a life sciences company, uses its own propriety program to quickly analyze genetic mutations in DNA from patients. Its platform has reduced the wait time for patient results from months to days. Now, with the addition of Level 3’s service, the data is more secure and able to be transferred and downloaded at a faster pace than in the past.
Courtagen Life Sciences President and Cofounder Brendan McKernan described Level 3’s global network as “invaluable to the work we do.”
"Courtagen gathers terabytes of data, compresses the data, and, in the past, had to physically ship it to our cloud provider for processing, distribution, and use by our physicians,” McKernan said. “Now, Level 3's direct connection to AWS helps us meet stringent HIPAA security requirements and delivers that data in a fraction of the typical industry turnaround time."
According to an article published on Yahoo! Finance, Level 3 Communications (News - Alert) is an AWS partner that uses an international fiber-optic network to aid businesses in securing practical networking solutions. The fiber networks are located on three continents, all of which are connected by complex undersea networks.
Andrew Crouch, Level 3’s North America regional president, said Courtagen’s “unique needs” fit well with the services offered by Level 3. “We're delighted our comprehensive portfolio of managed and unmanaged services continues to meet healthcare customers' requirements for security, reliability and HIPAA compliance,” he said.
Other services offered by Level 3 include video and content distribution, data center and cloud-based solutions, IP-based voice and data communications and wide-area Ethernet services, among several other services.
