ExaGrid Publishes Top Five Predictions for Backup and Recovery Market in 2013

In the data storage and recovery industry, disk-based storage is quickly replacing tapes. This is because disk-based storage offers various advantages over its traditional counterpart. It’s easier to store and faster to write.

Experts therefore believe disk-based data storage will continue to grow in the coming years.

ExaGrid Systems is one such expert. Recently, the company published its top five predictions for the global backup and recovery market in 2013.

According to the company, the disk will continue to replace the tape. And when it comes to the choice of backup solutions, SMBs will look to the cloud for primary backups, instant recovery will get widespread adoption, mid-market to enterprise will consider cloud for DR, and state-of-the-art capabilities bring backup window relief.

Disk-based data protection solutions are more in demand because of the advanced data features and unique abilities of disk-based data protection solutions. They provide backup windows that cannot be offered by tape.

The requirements of companies have outpaced the features of tape backup technologies in recent years.

Dave Therrien, chief technical officer and founder of ExaGrid, stated, “Organizations that are focused on implementing new backup approaches that can scale to accommodate data growth rates of 30 percent or more – while keeping total system costs low to protect IT budgets – will be best positioned for this period of rapid change. Based on the convergence of each of these important trends in 2013, organizations can no longer look at backup and recovery as a lower priority data center initiative.”

Recently, the company announced that 50 clients, who earlier used EMC Data Domain, have now selected ExaGrid's disk backup with de-duplication facility. These clients are either changing their Data Domain (News - Alert) system or looking to manage new development and projects for which they require an inexpensive scalability option.
