Enpirion, Future Electronics Unveil Cheap Power-System-on-Chip DC-DC Converters

Enpirion, in association with Future Electronics, will release new solutions that are based on the unique wafer level magnetic technology. These PowerSoC DC-DC converters will use silicon wafers instead of conventional discrete bulk magnetic, thereby making them available at very low prices.

In a statement, Mark Cieri, VP of Sales and Corporate Marketing at Enpirion said, “Besides enjoying the fastest time to market, customers benefit from a combination of low cost and highest density not possible with any other alternative integrated power management solution.”

The latest EL700 family comprises of low power completely-incorporated PowerSoCs that use the electroplated wafer level magnetic. Available at a very low price, the EL700 family offers low power point-of-load DC-DC conversion at a ground-shattering 18 MHz switching frequency for extremely-low ripple. In comparison to an LDO, power conversion proficiency is enhanced by nearly 40 points by the EL711 and EL712. Similarly, the effectiveness also increased by 90 percent. An input voltage range of 2.65V to 5.5V is supported by the 1A and 1.5A switch-mode DC-DC converters, also known as actual Enpirion PowerSoCs. The EL711, which features an extremely fast transient response, is capable of fulfilling the stipulations of high performance digital ASICs, DSPs, and FPGA cores located in a wide array of applications.

Dan Casey, EVP at Future Electronics said, “We are happy to partner with Enpirion to offer the EL700 family to the market. Future prides itself of offering its customer a complete breadth of electronics components while focused on enabling fastest time to market solutions such as Enpirion’s PowerSoC DC-DC converter solutions.”

Available in a 3x4.5x0.9 mm DFN package, the EL711 PowerSoC is pin-compatible to the 1.5A switch-mode DC-DC converter EL712. These devices can be used instead of low drop-out regulators, as they are much cheaper.

Future Electronics is the only organization currently marketing the EL711 and EL712. The EL711 can be purchased at $0.57 for bulk volumes of 1000 units. The EL712 will be made available in volumes by the first quarter of 2013. Assessment boards for Enpirion solutions are also provided by Future Electronics.
