Vicor Corp. Augments Picor Cool-Power ZVSbuck Regulator Product Line with New Introductions

System designers seeking to deploy more efficient power distribution schemes that operate from a higher voltage input source can now leverage Vicor Corporation’s PI33XX Picor Cool-Power ZVSbuck regulator product line.

As, Massachusetts-based Vicor (News - Alert) – a provider of modular power components -- has introduced 14 new additions to its PI33XX Picor Cool-Power ZVSbuck regulator product line for high efficiency point of load DC-DC regulation.

According to Vicor, this latest product line extension includes higher current devices as well as optional I2C fault telemetry and programmability.  And, for designers challenged by complex distribution power schemes can leverage these Cool-Power ZVS buck regulators as they offer an optional I2C extended fault telemetry capability allowing for six distinct types of fault reporting.

Offering high performance with advanced power management functions, the PI33XX products are designed to convert 8V to 36V inputs to high current, low voltage point of load system rails such as 3.3V, 2.5V, 1.8V and 1V.

Requiring only an external inductor and minimal ceramic capacitors for input and output filtering to form a complete high performance regulator, the PI33XX series has been integrated with a high performance Zero-Voltage Switching (ZVS) topology within the Cool-Power ZVS buck regulators.

The ZVS topology facilitates for high power density, and high-frequency operation that maximizes efficiency by minimizing the significant switching losses that are associated with conventional hard-switching buck regulators.

Other additional device-programmable I2C features in the PI33XX series include output margining, enable pin and synchronization pin logic polarity, and phase delay.

According to Vicor, the PI33XX series allows system designers to deploy more efficient power distribution schemes that rely on a higher input voltage source, as it can support high performance conversions with large step down ratios up to the rated input voltage of 36V.

In addition, all products in the PI33XX series are highly integrated with control circuitry, power semiconductors and support components in a high density 10mmx14mmx2.56mm LGA System in Package (SiP).

Currently, the Picor Cool-Power portfolio incorporates the PI31XX series of isolated converters and the PI33XXseries of ZVS buck regulators.

The Picor PI33XX-01-LGIZ Cool-Power ZVS buck regulators are priced at 15.41 for 1,000-unit quantities.

Optional I2C devices, PI33XX-20-LGIZ and PI33XX-21-LGIZ are priced at 14.13and 16.96 for 1,000-unit quantities, respectively.

Elucidating the purpose of the PI33XX products, Robert Gendron, VP, marketing and business development, Vicor, said in a statement, "The high level of customer interest in these new products validates the benefits of our ZVS regulator platform, which enables system designers to deploy more efficient power distribution schemes that operate from a higher voltage input source."

In recent news, Vicor expanded its factorized power architecture product line as well.
