ESG Publishes Comprehensive Report Evaluating Business-focussed OFS Solutions

The Enterprise Strategy Group (News - Alert) (ESG) recently announced that it has published a series of reports, authored by ESG Senior Analyst Terri McClure and ESG Research Analyst Kristine Kao, which provide a comprehensive evaluation and testing of  13 business-oriented online file sharing and collaboration (OFS (News - Alert)) services. The reports are thorough and detailed assessment of business-focused OFS solutions.

In a statement, Terri McClure, said that, “The OFS market is red-hot because businesses are trying to support mobile workforces addicted to alternative endpoint devices. IT teams need to rein in data sprawl and maintain file security while empowering those users. OFS vendors, knowing this, are aggressively building out business-focused services. The time is right for a comprehensive analysis of these vendors’ offerings and capabilities. ESG knows from its research that corporate customers are looking to OFS services to achieve different objectives. Some organizations are laser-focused on mobile workforce enablement. Others want to enhance collaboration workflows. We believe prospective OFS customers will find the Test Drive results invaluable for selecting the right vendor and service offering to meet specific requirements.”

OFS solutions, which are Internet-based services, have been designed to allow users to easily store, access, share, and collaborate on documents and other files in the cloud. Currently, these services have become popular in light of the fact that an increasing number of people now want to access their documents using multiple devices such as traditional PCs, tablet computers, and smartphones.

Also because knowledge workers these days prefer using their own tablets and smartphone devices, IT and line-of-business organizations are under immense pressure to cater to OFS services. However, they are required to manage these services in a consistent, standard manner if they are to continue having administrative control over corporate data assets. Corporate buyers are constantly on the lookout for solutions which can help them maintain this balance. However, OFS offerings that provide a distinctive functionality, administrative, security, and usability capabilities are far too many.

To ease their decision making process in this regard, ESG decided to publish a series of ESG Test Drive reports that focus on OFS services with respect to hands-on testing and assessment of features, usability, manageability, and effectiveness of these products/services within specific IT market segment.
