MMRGlobal Earns New Health Information Technology Patent

MyMedicalRecords (MMR), a provider of personal health records and electronic safe deposit box storage solutions, has received a health information technology patent from the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

The U.S. Patent No. 8,301,466 entitled, "Method and System for Providing Online Records" and issued on October 30, is directed toward methods for providing users with the ability to access and collect health records.

The patent expands MMR’s portfolio and has relevance to numerous offerings that enable the exchange of health records between healthcare providers and other users in a secure and private manner. It comes in advance of the meaningful use requirement that patients have online access to their protected health information through a personal health record or other form of patient portal by 2014.

MyMedicalRecords (MMR) is the wholly owned operating subsidiary of MMRGlobal. MMR provides online Personal Health Records (PHRs) and electronic safe deposit box storage solutions, serving consumers, healthcare professionals, employers, insurance companies, financial institutions, and professional organizations and affinity groups.

The MyMedicalRecords PHR enables individuals and families to access their medical records and other important documents, such as birth certificates, passports, insurance policies and wills, anytime from anywhere using the Internet.

The health information technology patent was awarded less than one month before the scheduling of court-ordered arbitration proceedings against Surgery Center Management. The company is in its second year of a $30 million license agreement with SCM, in a suit it is claiming to be owed nearly $10 million.

Legal representatives of the company are in the process of contacting hospitals and other healthcare professionals regarding the enforcement of the company's intellectual property rights and the opportunity to license the technology. The company is also in touch with potential licensees and is aggressively pursuing license agreements. These license agreements will generate immediate sales and revenues to MMR.
