Combining Hadoop and NoSQL capabilities on a single platform, MapR Technologies, Inc. has announced MapR M7. According to the company, this new platform helps companies in performing various big data operations such as batch analytics to real-time database functions.
MapR gets rid of the complexity of deploying and managing Hadoop. With the help of an advanced graphical interface, MapR offers alerts, alarms and insights. While MapR Volumes simplify data security, retention, placement, and quota management, MapR’s Heatmap offers a clear view of cluster health and performance.
Offering instant recovery from hardware and software failures, M7 allows users to make HBase enterprise grade. It also allows them to recover fully from any disaster and offers complete data safety with features such as snapshots and mirroring. Applications will continue running without any supervision even with various hardware or software outages and errors.
“With M7, customers can now more successfully address a broader set of use cases,” said John Schroeder, CEO and cofounder, MapR Technologies. “This release is further evidence of MapR’s technical leadership and ability to make Big Data applications easy, dependable and fast.”
M7 takes the performance of HBase to new heights. First, M7 offers uniform and consistent performance by eliminating the need for compactions. Second, the inserts and updates provided are much faster as it makes use of innovative data structures that reduce the read- and write-amplification factor. Offering more options to increase database performance, M7 also supports in-memory columns.
In 2011, the company entered into a technology software licensing agreement with EMC (News - Alert). According to the agreement, MapR Technologies would then be a part of the EMC Greenplum HD Enterprise Edition.
