Green Hills Software Introduces AUTOSAR API to Support its INTEGRITY RTOS

Green Hills Software, a vendor of embedded software solutions, released AUTOSAR (AUTomotive Open System ARchitecture) Application Programming Interface which is compliant with its INTEGRITY real-time operating system or RTOS.

The AUTOSAR API along with standard APIs for OSEK and POSIX are expected to help automobile manufacturers deal with the problem of ECU or Electronic Control Unit bloat in vehicles.

Newly launched automobiles feature 80 microprocessor-based ECUs and owing to design constraints the number is increasing resulting in more cost and time to market while affecting quality.

Dan Mender, vice president of business development, Green Hills Software said, “Green Hills Software has been helping companies solve the difficult challenges of ECU consolidation with guaranteed ‘freedom from interference’ in the world’s most critical embedded systems for over a decade.”

According to officials the separation capabilities of the INTEGRITY RTOS and the new expanded API will help optimize automotive electronics. An ECU consolidation design strategy will be enabled with which developers can decrease vehicle ECU count. Complexity can be reduced with better functionality and quality by leveraging safety-critical systems.

“This additional support expands the ability for automotive OEMs and Tier 1s to tackle the challenge of safely and reliably consolidating legacy functions with new system capabilities,” Mender added.

The Green Hills AUTOSAR support follows the launch of the Green Hills MULTI tool chain that is fully compliant with ISO 26262 standard. It assures of high Automotive Safety Integrity Level, ASIL D. The AUTOSAR API can be seamlessly integrated with applications on INTEGRITY-based platforms.

Recently, Green Hills demonstrated its MULTI Tool Chain and Green Hills Compiler for the Texas Instruments (News - Alert) Hercules RM48x Safety MCU. The Hercules family of Safety MCUs is designed for the IEC 61508 and ISO 26262 safety-critical applications. They deliver integrated safety features such as scalable performance, connectivity, and memory options.

Officials explained that the MULTI IDE and TimeMachine debugger will provide a suite of tools necessary for debugging safety applications saving on development time. The Green Hills Compiler ensures reliable code generation for Hercules benefiting developers a lot.
