Riverbed (News - Alert) Technology recently improved its Riverbed Steelhead product suite with hardware appliance models and software enhancements. By introducing these enhancements, the company will make it easy for enterprises to bring their IT from the data center and the branch to mobile workers.
"As data centers continue to evolve, organizations are looking to simplify IT operations and improve end-user experience without adding cost and complexity,” said Miles Kelly, senior director of product marketing at Riverbed. “These new Steelhead models and software enhancements better enable global enterprises to consolidate and scale while delivering a consistent end-user experience."
The two releases, Steelhead CX 5055 model appliance and the Steelhead CX 7055 model appliance, have been designed to ensure high-performance via the integration of new levels of bandwidth and TCP session scalability and SSDs. The result is improved performance, reliability and flexibility, as well as the cost-effective management of large-scale data center-to-data center replication, and applications for multiple locations and users within an enterprise.
Furthermore, the Riverbed Interceptor appliance, which can provide support for up to one million connections, can now address the needs of the largest and most complex data center environments.
Improvement within the Steelhead Mobile 4.0 appliance will enable simplified management and provisioning of mobile users and devices with the ability to support 120,000 mobile users. The appliance provides Kerberos authentication support, currently leveraged by Microsoft (News - Alert) applications and platforms in addition to Active Directory and Windows Server – as well as native optimization for SMBv2 traffic and comprehensive support for Outlook Anywhere.
The inclusion of clustering capabilities and an improved user interface within the Steelhead Mobile Controller (SMC) will enable enterprises to easily configure policies while addressing growing demand from their mobile workforce.
Following their partnership with Teradici to enhance IT infrastructure performance in RiOS 8.0, Riverbed introduced the first quality of service (QoS) for PCoIP for ensuring fine-grained control and management of VMware View virtual desktop traffic.
Riverbed has further built on its integrated QoS capabilities within the RiOS 8.0, which has resulted in improved scalability for automatic identification and prioritization to more than 600 applications.
