Blue Coat Extends the Same Level of Protection to Small Branch Offices with Its Secure Web Gateway Virtual Appliance

Web security and WAN optimization solutions provider, Blue Coat (News - Alert) Systems introduced  Secure Web Gateway (News - Alert) Virtual Appliance for small branch offices.

There are situations, when the businesses need to quickly set up temporary offices. The Blue Coat Virtual Appliance allows the businesses to flexibly deploy on-premise security solutions to meet the unique needs of the job site and easily move the infrastructure to the next site when a job is done.

The solution has been designed to extend the same depth of protection and control delivered by the Blue Coat ProxySG appliances to small branch office locations with limited space and IT resources. Deployed on a virtualized server, the new Blue Coat Secure Web Gateway Virtual Appliance allows businesses to support Web security and other critical remote office infrastructure on a common platform, reducing costs and IT resource requirements.

With mobile devices being increasingly being used by the mobile workers, Blue Coat is committed to provide advanced Web security technologies that help customers seamlessly protect their users and data, irrespective of physical location and network. The Blue Coat Unified Security solution has been designed to help companies extend their security coverage to any user across devices on any network by delivering global threat protection and policy via Blue Coat ProxySG appliances and the Blue Coat Cloud Service.

The Unified Security solution leverages Blue Coat WebPulse collaborative defense infrastructure across both hardware appliances and cloud services, giving enterprises unprecedented flexibility and reach in their security deployment. WebPulse unites 75 million users in a common defense against Web-based threats and other malicious activities. By tracking more than 500 malnets (malware networks), WebPulse provides the industry's only Negative Day Defense to block attacks before they launch.

Just like ProxySG appliances, the Blue Coat Secure Web Gateway Virtual Appliance delivers the same unmatched policy controls, allowing businesses to set advanced policies based on more than 100 different parameters to protect their users, data and networks.

Additionally, the Blue Coat Secure Web Gateway Virtual Appliance provides the most comprehensive set of Web, Mobile and Mobile Web Application Controls that give businesses control over the applications and operations running on their networks.

“The Blue Coat Secure Web Gateway Virtual Appliance is a simple and powerful way to seamlessly extend the same on-premise threat protection and policies that ProxySG appliances provide at the corporate gateway to branch offices with limited IT staff. The new virtual appliances complement Blue Coat's existing on-premise appliances and cloud-based service, giving businesses the flexibility to deploy the solution that best fits their unique security requirements,” vice president of product management at Blue Coat Systems Steve Schoenfeld noted in a statement.

Blue Coat Systems recently named Dr. Hugh Thompson as senior vice president and chief security strategist.
