N2Power Introduces New 330W AC/DC Power Supply with Optimized Power Density and Efficiency Ratio

N2Power recently announced a new 330W AC/DC power supply with a never before achieved combination of power density and efficiency. The 1.35-inch high, open-frame XL330-54 has been designed with a 3-inch x 5.3-inch (76mm x 135mm) footprint enabling it to provide a power density of 15W/in3 while sustaining only 13CFM cooling. The new power supply unit also offers a space saving of 32 percent as opposed to traditional 1U units with a similar rating and having a 6-inch x 4-inch (102mm x 152mm) footprint.

N2Power is one of the major providers of automated tape libraries and power supplies that are optimized for improved energy efficiency. In a statement, N2Power's VP and GM, Randy Johnson, said that, "With the rising price of energy across the globe, engineers now appreciate that efficiency gains of just a few percentage points deliver substantial cost benefits throughout a product's operating life. For example, when a power supply is 90% efficient, rather than 87% efficient, that's a 23% performance improvement and energy saving. N2Power delivers this improvement without compromising the product's compact size or other desirable features."

With a capability of delivering a maximum full-load efficiency of 90 percent thanks to synchronous rectification, Or-ing MOSFETs, and active PFC design, the XL330-54 has been designed to ensure a 23 percent reduction in heat generation when compared to other power supplies. This means a substantial reduction in need for cooling requirements without any impact on system reliability. The high efficiency quotient of the power supply unit delivers greater energy savings thereby resulting in higher return on investment.

The XL330-54 comes with two primary outputs - the 54V/6.1A and 12V/9A, as well as a 12V/1A auxiliary output. The 54V output ,which is 2250VDC, separated from the other outputs makes the XL330-54 Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) compatible. The unique framework of the XL330-54 allows active current sharing on the 54V output for up to four power supplies which can be simultaneously operated. Furthermore, the power supplies can also be configured for N+1 operation.

The power supplies additionally come with - universal AC input (90-264VAC) and active inrush current protection of 10.5A at 240VAC which remains constant during operation.  The XL330-54 CS has also been developed to be RoHS compliant and can easily meet all major international safety and EMC (News - Alert) requirements.
