NEC Announces New Approach to Cloud Computing

At the Cloud Connect Conference and Expo in Chicago, NEC (News - Alert) Corporation of America (NEC) presented Cloud in a Vault, a concept that may make some fundamental changes in the cloud computing market.

NEC’ Cloud in a Vault was reportedly put through rigorous testing and multiple successful full-scale global deployments, and it is claimed to be the first ever holistic Infrastructure-as-a-Service solution for major enterprises.

The solution is reportedly ideal for any company that emphasizes on security, scalability, reliability and control.

One major highlight of NEC’s Cloud in a Vault is that it offers a private cloud built entirely on customers’ requirements, and it is stated to specifically cater to enterprise customers like healthcare and financial institutions – where scalability, security and compliance are of critical importance.

The solution is available to users either from NEC’s data centers or as an on-premises deployment – and unlike other emerging cloud solutions it is not a prepackaged appliance.

Cloud in a Vault makes use of Cyber Innovation Lab’s 2N Tier 3+ SSAE 16 certified data center facilities, NEC’ Software Defined Networking (SDN) product family, ProgrammableFlow networking and Nblock infrastructure along with the Halock Security Labs’ security solutions.

“Cloud in a Vault delivers the first completely supported and transportable solution all-inclusive of the data center infrastructure to the hardware, software and applications that run through it,” said Mike Mitsch, VP of enterprise technology unit/IT group for NEC. “NEC’s proven and flexible Nblock technology stack incorporates industry standard, OpenFlow-based SDN technology, coupled with Cyber Innovation Lab’s ultra-reliable data center facilities and Halock’s security solutions. As a result, Cloud in a Vault meets the demands of the most discerning companies in the financial, healthcare, legal, government and educational verticals – and beyond.”

Recently, NEC upgraded ProgrammableFlow and Egenera and NEC rolled out PAN Manager for Sigmablade in North America.
