DataCore Software Demos New Version of SANsymphony

DataCore Software has showcased its SANsymphony V 9.0 – the newest release of its flagship product – that boosts the speed, throughput and availability of virtualized, I/O intensive tier 1 applications such as SAP, Oracle (News - Alert), Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft SharePoint and Microsoft Exchange.

“SANsymphony-V simplifies management and easily it can make data center storage more resilient,” said Tony Palmer, senior engineer and analyst with ESG Lab, adding that with a single mouse click disk capacity is served, with all normal error-prone steps to configure, tune and set best paths for high availability being done auto-magically.

According to the ESG Lab Validation report, the benchmark tests confirm that Microsoft (News - Alert) SQL Server and Exchange workloads were able to improve their performance five times as much. The systems that leveraged SANsymphony-V were able to support more than 1,500 users unlike only 322 users on the non-virtualized physical servers.

It’s also noted that one of the reasons for enterprises to not virtualize their I/O intensive tier 1 applications is I/O bottlenecks that affect performance and cause downtime. Company officials said that SANsymphony-V overcomes this by using device-independent adaptive caching and performance boosting techniques to absorb wildly variable workloads so that applications run faster virtualized.

The new offering from DataCore comes with auto-tiering feature. Company officials said that this feature optimizes the use of premium-priced flash memory-based SSDs alongside more modestly priced, higher capacity disk drives.

In order to ensure that a suitable class or tier of storage device is assigned to each workload based on priorities and urgency, SANsymphony-V constantly monitors I/O behavior and intelligently auto-selects between server memory caches, flash storage and traditional disk resources in real-time.

Company officials said that once I/O intensive tier 1 applications are virtualized, SANsymphony-V ensures high availability, eliminating single points of failure and disruption via application-transparent physical separation stretched across rooms or off-site with full auto-recovery capabilities for the highest levels of business continuity.

And to achieve responsive shared storage environment that is necessary to support highly dynamic virtual IT environments, SANsymphony-V virtualizes whatever storage is on a user's floor – whether direct-attached or SAN-connected – according to company officials.

DataCore Software develops storage virtualization software for high availability, fast performance and maximum utilization from storage in virtual and physical IT environments.  “The company fundamentally changes the economics of performance, cost-effectively enabling application owners to virtualize their tier 1 applications as they transform into private clouds,” said George Teixeira, CEO and president at DataCore Software.

Earlier this month, the company announced that resellers are “avidly” supporting the new release of SANsymphony-V 9.0 storage hypervisor to address the top storage challenges their customers are facing, including budgetary constraints, systems performance, application uptime and the need for flexibility and freedom of choice.
