Laser Research Optics Launches Zinc Selenide Windows

Laser Research Optics, a division of Meller Optics, has launched Zinc Selenide (ZnSe) windows which provide a very wide transmission range. Laser Research ZnSe Windows have a very low absorption coefficient of 0.0005/cm @ 10.6 µm, and are non-hygroscopic. The ZnSe can be provided blank, polish finished, and coated for spectrometers and detectors.

Meller Optics has been providing high quality optics to defense, medical, laser and industrial markets for over 50 years. Meller Optics is a manufacturer of hard crystalline materials, such as ruby and sapphire. Laser Research Optics maintains one of the largest inventories of stock CO2 optics. Meller Optics has also developed high-speed, low-cost finishing processes for a variety of Laser Glasses, Fused Silica, Zinc Selenide, Germanium, Silicon, Fluorides, and Ceramic materials.

ZnSe windows are highly stable in a laboratory environment and can be supplied blank, polish finished, and DBAR coated in 0.5" to 3.0" O.D. sizes and various thicknesses to match specific customer requirements. Laser Research ZnSe Windows are perfect for systems operating at various bands within the material's broad transmission range.

Depending upon system performance requirements, typical surface quality in the IR is 40-20 scratch-dig, 60-40 in the 0.8 to 7 µm region, and 60-40, 80-50, or 120-80 scratch-dig for the 7 to 16 µm region. The optics are ideal for direct field replacement in low power CO2 lasers currently being used for laser marking, laser engraving, laser cutting, and low power scribing and welding.

In order to protect against thermal damage and provide focal length stability, resulting in consistent quality cuts, Laser Research has recently launched Cool-Cut CO2 Laser Lenses. The lenses have a 40-20 scratch-dig surface quality and transmission is > 99.0 percent at 10.6 micron. Cool-Cut CO2 Laser Lenses are available in 1” and 2” dia. sizes from 0.236” to 0.380” thick with focal lengths from 1” to 25” in 0.5” increments.
