Symmetry Electronics Expands Distribution Agreement with RTX

In an effort to further support its wireless customers, Symmetry Electronics (News - Alert) has expanded its distribution agreement with RTX A/S, a designer and producer of advanced wireless solutions, to include RTX’s Wi-Fi modules and test equipment for DECT (News - Alert), VoIP and Wi-Fi designs.

Symmetry is a global distributor of design-focused semiconductor solutions.

Under the terms of this expanded agreement, Symmetry Electronics will now also start distributing RTX’s RF test chambers/equipment, development/evaluation tools and ultra low power Wi-Fi modules based on an ARM Energy Micro Gecko MCU and Qualcomm (News - Alert) Atheros AR4100 Wi-Fi SiP.

RTX A/S designs and produces advanced wireless solutions across a variety of markets, such as solutions for enterprise PBX (News - Alert) and VoIP communications, professional audio, consumer gaming, home automation and smart metering. In other words, it is primarily focused on the development and production of advanced wireless solutions including DECT, VoIP, Wi-Fi, and other RF standards.

As a preferred partner to many OEMs, RTX has a wide portfolio that also includes robust RF testing chambers and equipment, as well as development and evaluation tools for its RTX4100 802.11 b/g/n ultra-low power Wi-Fi module.

The RTX RF test platforms, now available on Symmetry Electronics, support a range of different RF tests and can be used for high throughput manufacturing applications.

According to RTX, its RF test platforms also serve as a development or service tool for DECT/DECT 6.0/CAT-iq/Japan DECT standards. These platforms can be set up to test on either a portable part or a fixed part.

The platforms, highly efficient due to the concurrent measurement capability, act as portable parts when used for fixed part testing and vice versa for portable part testing.

The RTX4100 Wi-Fi Module, now available on Symmetry Electronics, is ideal for development of low power solutions because of its full security package, high efficiency and low power.

According to RTX, the RTX 4100 Wi-Fi module features full security package, high efficiency and low power through the use of the Energy Micro Gecko MCU and Qualcomm Atheros (News - Alert) AR4100 Wi-Fi SiP.

With the RTX4100 Wi-Fi module, applications can run directly on the module without requiring an external host processor, allowing the rapid application development of low power sensor, automation and smart metering solutions.

"In the past, RTX has been very successful in helping Symmetry support wireless customers,” said Gil Zaharoni, CEO for Symmetry Electronics, said in a press release. “The addition of RF testing equipment and the RTX partnerships with Qualcomm Atheros and Energy Micro will allow us to advance our design support and increase our presence in markets requiring very low power (Wi-Fi enabled) devices."

In recent news, Symmetry Electronics signed a global distribution agreement with CambridgeIC – a developer of non-contact position sensing technology including the CAM204 chip.
