NextComputing Nucleus RM Capture 16X3 Optimizes Data Recording Applications

NextComputing (News - Alert) released a new platform for high-throughput data recording applications, based on the Nucleus RM family of compact and customizable rackmount computers manufactured by the company. NextComputing specializes in small form-factor computing systems.

The new platform, the Nucleus RM Capture 16X3, delivers remarkable sustained write-to-disk rates for solutions that suit applications in network forensics, application performance optimization and deep packet analysis, officials said in a news release.

With a boost in volume of data created by online video, mobile data and the popularity of social media, service providers and large enterprises are facing the difficult task of capturing and analyzing the high-bandwidth network traffic.

This necessitates a reliable platform that can deploy network monitoring tools, as increases in data translates to more strain on systems responsible for monitoring, gathering and disseminating information.

Officials explained that most OEMs possess server hardware that does not have the required performance, flexibility and customization characteristics to deal with different types of situations. Solution providers also develop software applications and do not have the capability to handle hardware.

To serve this critical need, NextComputing has developed the Nucleus RM Capture 16X3, which delivers an optimized network monitoring solution supported by the company’s engineering services and customization options.

This tool is based on rack-based capture systems featuring greater storage capacity in the form of sixteen (16) front-access removable 3.5" hard drives.

The system has two more rear-access removable 2.5" hard drives, available as SATA, SAS (News - Alert), or SSD with 1TB capacity. They let operating systems and applications to be installed on a separate volume so that maximum storage is enabled with the sixteen front-access drives.

The Intel Xeon E5-2600 series processors and the high-speed PCI (News - Alert) Express 3.0 bus optimizes stream-to-disk performance of the Nucleus RM Capture 16X3 as they offer direct access to processing and memory with Intel’s QuickPath Interconnect.

NextComputing also announced the launch of Nucleus RM Capture in May 2012. This new addition to its Nucleus RM family of compact rackmount systems provides high-speed data recording, processing and I/O capabilities for developers of packet capture, data acquisition and network forensics solutions. The Nucleus RM Capture is a high-performance rack-based storage system in a dense 3U chassis with several unique features not available in other products.
