Managing big data is a complex task as it comprises huge volumes of data in a variety of formats, the velocity of record creation and variable latencies, and the complexities of individual data types within formats. Companies looking to acclimatize their infrastructures for big data would benefit greatly from selecting solutions which broadly address these issues.
Moving a step ahead to address the need of managing big data, Quantum (News - Alert) has announced the launch StorNext 4.3 software, which will deliver greater intelligence for managing, protecting and archiving big data. StorNext 4.3 incorporates a new database and supports up to one billion files and dozens of petabytes of tiered storage. It pushes the boundaries for file system and archiving performance.
Quantum is a global expert in data protection and big data management. The company’s newly launched software is developed to address emerging big data needs in digital media content, genomics research, video surveillance and natural resource exploration. Quantum’s StorNext 4.3 software also includes unique capabilities for emerging customer needs such as archive on ingest, active vaulting and project-based capacity management. These all features are designed to further manage the volume, velocity and diversity found in massive unstructured data and to extract maximum value from it.
In a press release, Janae Stow Lee, senior vice president, Filesytem and Archive, Quantum, said, “Quantum continues to push the limits and evolve StorNext with customers' big data management needs in mind. With re-architected tiered storage capabilities, StorNext enables customers to achieve greater scale, performance and reliability when managing content. This latest version of StorNext also leverages our vertical market expertise by including features for big data file formats and workflows that have specific requirements, thereby helping to maximize the value of the stored information.”
Quantum was recently in news when the company added a larger, more scalable StorNext M660 metadata appliance with greater functionality to its StorNext product line. The new StorNext M660 metadata appliance is developed to centrally control up to eight StorNext file systems for a total of 800 million files and to manage large-scale, fast-growing datasets, including up to petabytes of economical, tiered content archives.
