O2Micro's Power Conversion Circuit Issued U.S. Patent

Energy conservation has gained lot of importance as many enterprises are showing interest in reducing their carbon footprint. Innovative power conversion circuits play a key role in energy conservation due to their unique properties.  Consequently, the demand for such innovative circuits has increased.

Cashing-in on this trend, O2Micro International (News - Alert) Limited (OIIM) – a provider of high-performance integrated circuits and solutions –came-up with innovative circuits and methods for power conversion.

Recently, O2Micro announced that it was issued 20 claims under United States patent number 8,193,758 for its circuits and methods for power conversion.

As a provider of innovative power management and e-commerce components for the computer, consumer, industrial, and communications markets, O2Micro currently maintains an extensive portfolio of intellectual property with 19,795 patent claims already granted. More than 21,000 patent claims are pending.

Discussing the latest patents issued, Laszlo (News - Alert) Lipcsei, vice president, O2Micro, said in a statement, "This patented power conversion circuit uses a single power stage to charge the battery with power from a solar panel during the day and will work as an LED driver during the night, thus simplifying the design and reducing cost."

Recently, O2Micro was issued 15 claims under United States patent number 8,169,160 for its LED Driving methodology. This methodology controls the LED current with accuracy and provides an effective power management solution for LED lighting applications.

In addition, O2Micro was also issued 23 claims under United States patent number 8,179,105 for its Power Converter Current Control invention recently. This invention provides a method to accurately control the battery charger's charging current in the low current range, which is difficult using traditional architectures.

The company recently revised its guidance for the second quarter of 2012. It now expects its second quarter revenue to be in the range of $27.9 million to $28.5 million, versus previous guidance of $30.3 million to $31.8 million. In addition, gross margin for the second quarter is now expected to be 55 percent to 56 percent.
