Less than a month after completing the acquisition of Anue Systems, Ixia has moved to bring cyber security outfit BreakingPoint Systems into the fold.
This latest deal, announced today, is worth $160 million in cash. The transaction is slated to close in the third quarter.
“The current threat landscape is changing everything – from the way we conduct business, to how we protect data and secure infrastructures, to the ways we train cyber warriors,” stated Vic Alston, Ixia’s president and CEO. “This dynamic IT landscape is creating a growing demand for solutions that provide definitive and current insight into the resiliency of critical IT infrastructures and defenses. The use of disparate testing tools, threat intelligence and monitoring products allows dangerous security vulnerabilities that erode the security posture of businesses and government agencies.”
“By leveraging BreakingPoint with Ixia’s integrated portfolio of proven network test products, customers will have available to them an end-to-end solution to help ensure business continuity for enterprises and government organizations,” he said.
BreakingPoint’s 2011 revenue was $33.5 million – an increase of 40 percent from the previous year. It generated gross margin of 87 percent in that same period. Expectations are for BreakingPoint to once again grow its revenue by more than 40 percent this calendar year.
Ixia has updated its revenue guidance for the second quarter of 2012 to between $87 million and $89 million for its core business. The initial guidance was in the $86 million to $89 million range. Ixia expects Anue to bring in $3 million to $4 million in additional revenue in the second quarter.
TMCnet spoke to Anue at last month’s Cisco (News - Alert) Live in San Diego. Anue is known for its network visibility solutions, used for network monitoring in live networks. The firm is now known as Ixia’s network visibility group, but the products will be marketed under the sub-brand Anue.
Last month, Ixia announced the Anue Net Tool Optimizer 5293, “the industry’s first and only carrier-grade, high-density, 40Gbps network monitoring switch,” according to company officials.
Ixia has traditionally played in the test and measurement space relating to application and network performance in pre-production (lab) environments.
