Jaspersoft Report Reveals Growing Acceptance of Cloud BI

Jaspersoft, a supplier of one of the world’s most popular BI suites, has released the results of its Cloud BI survey, revealing the growing acceptability of PaaS solutions among the organizations and an increasing demand for SaaS (News - Alert) and PaaS applications with embedded BI capabilities.

The global survey was conducted last May on 300 Jaspersoft community members, and revealed that an increasing number of companies are embracing the SaaS BI technology in an effort to get BI-embedded Cloud environments.

The report showed 39 percent of respondents said their SaaS applications do not currently embed reports, dashboards or analytics. This is leading respondents to turn to SaaS BI to address this gap.

The report said 31 percent of the respondents have already implemented this technology, and another 33 percent plan to do that in the next two years.

The percentage of the respondents that are using PaaS, by incorporating BI directly into their apps, is 14 percent – quite remarkable, according to the report.

The survey predicted that within two years, nearly 45 percent of the organizations will be using PaaS.

“Despite it being a relatively nascent technology, PaaS is already making its mark,” said Jaspersoft CMO Jim Bell. “Add to this the fact that over 60 percent of organizations' SaaS applications do not include BI functionality, and you can see there is a desire to for BI capabilities for both PaaS and SaaS applications. The good news is that a new generation of Cloud applications is being built with BI already integrated.”

The report also pointed out that with SaaS BI, security is a concern.

The report also found that over 55 percent organizations are using SaaS BI to deliver services to an external audience, typically provided within another application, while 46 percent use it to deliver services to an internal audience and to mobile devices

Less than half (46 percent) find it "difficult" to get data to and from the Cloud with SaaS BI

The main benefits for PaaS were identified as being able to build and deploy applications or services more quickly. While 67 percent identified the system as fast, 55 percent pointed to its cost saving aspect.

It’s therefore clear that agility is becoming more of a priority for the BI industry than actual cost savings. Cloud applications will be providing the industry with modern, flexible BI without having to build it or provision it standalone.

Earlier Jaspersoft announced a new partnership with GoGrid, a cloud infrastructure provider. Under the partnership, the companies will make Jaspersoft's open source BI platform available via the GoGrid Exchange, an ecosystem of specialized cloud-enabled partner solutions customers can deploy as part of their IT architecture.

Using GoGrid server image (GSI) technology, Jaspersoft will allow businesses and developers to use its BI reporting capabilities.
