Net Optics Almost Finalizes Phantom Virtualization Tap Hyper-V Support Capability

Net Optics (News - Alert) Phantom Virtual Tap is a network traffic monitoring and access device for virtualized computing environments including converged data centers. The company has added Microsoft (News - Alert) Hyper-V 3.0 support capability to the solution making it the only comprehensive vendor to provide visibility into all hypervisors in the market.

The integration of Hyper-V extensions into Phantom Tap is almost complete and a pre-release version was introduced at Cisco (News - Alert) Live and Tech Ed North America 2012.

To augment overall network traffic visibility by extending that visibility to the world of virtual computing, Phantom Virtual Tap is the new virtual approach for traffic access. The Phantom suite of software products provide 100 percent visibility of traffic passing between VMs on hypervisor stacks. The suite includes: Phantom Manager component which provides Tap control, administration, and traffic visibility; Phantom Monitor component which installs in the hypervisor for total traffic visibility. The solution can be used with virtual or physical Intrusion (News - Alert) Detection Systems (IDSs), protocol analyzers, layer-2 and Later-3 probes, and other devices.

Net Optics asserted that its Virtualization Tap has remained at the forefront of network traffic monitoring for virtualized and cloud computing environments since its introduction and it is the only monitoring solution available to address both physical and virtual environments. The Phantom Virtualization Tap integrates easily and smoothly into the virtual environment, with no interference with VMs and no modification needed in the VM.

“Our relationship with Microsoft extends the monitoring capabilities of the Phantom Virtualization Tap across every hypervisor in the industry. The benefit to customers is of a broadened spectrum of options in their monitoring strategies consistent with their technology, business needs and priorities”, said Ran Nahmias, senior director of Virtualization and Cloud Solutions at Net Optics, in a press release.
