iOnRoad selected as 'Best Product Demo' at Microsoft Think Next event

iOnRoad, the creator of an app that improves driving in real-time using the power of advanced smartphones, was recently selected at as the ‘Best Product Demo’ of the fourth annual Microsoft (News - Alert) Think Next event in Israel.

More than 2,000 technology workers and investors were present at Think Next event, part of Microsoft’s outreach to the thriving Israeli startup ecosystem.

iOnRoad uses the smartphone’s native camera and sensors to detect vehicles in front of the host vehicle, alerting drivers when they are in danger. iOnRoad’s VisualRadar, maps objects in front of the driver in real time, calculating the driver’s current speed using native sensors. As the vehicle approaches danger, an audio-visual warning pops up to alert of a possible collision, allowing the driver to brake in time.

The app can be set in either the “Augmented Reality” mode or “Background” mode. The Augmented Reality mode is similar to the HUD system that pilots use to display mission critical information. The “Background” mode can run behind another app, only alerting when it needs to warn the driver of danger.

"Microsoft is proud to be supporting local entrepreneurs and the best and brightest startup companies in Israel with Think Next,” said Zack Weisfeld Sr. Director of Strategy and Business Development at Microsoft Israel R&D Center. "The iOnRoad technology and team impressed Microsoft at the show and we are not at all surprised that this tech savvy crowd of technology players in Israel selected iOnRoad as the best product demo at Think Next."

This is not the first award for iOnRoad. The app already boasts numerous awards, including the CES 2012 innovation award, best augmented reality app of 2011 and one of Gartner’s (News - Alert) cool vendors in automotive for 2012.

The company was also selected by Microsoft to present at the press conference during Microsoft Think Next event and to publish a blog on the Microsoft Israel developer site.
