Infonetics Research (News - Alert), a firm that provides qualitative analysis on security trends and produces accurate forecasts to help clients quickly adapt to market changes, has recently published its fourth quarter (4Q11) Network Security Appliances and Software vendor market share and forecast report. The analysis provides a deep understanding of the studied market and examines how it has gone through major changes since the last quarter. The research is meant to help clients plan, strategize, and compete in the global communications market.
Infonetics Research report for 4Q11 reveals that spending on network security appliances and software is on the rise; with an increase of 3 percent in 2011, they anticipate there will be an 8 percent increase in 2012; they also forecast that network security revenue will grow to $6.7 billion by 2016. It is the continued evolution of threats and attacks to networks that is causing stronger growth in the network security and endpoint protection market, IT experts say.
As Jeff Wilson, principal analyst for security at Infonetics Research, points out, Cisco (News - Alert), Check Point and Juniper Networks are (and have been) leading the market by offering in-depth security protection to the majority of global customers: as shown by the fourth quarter results, these three vendors are gaining most of the overall network security revenue market share. The fourth quarter analysis shows Cisco as the market leader with 1/3 of global revenue; with Check Point and Juniper coming in second and third. All three vendors are likely to have more growth in 2012 if they stay true to their core networking focus, says Infonetics Research.
The analysts of Infonetics Research reveal strong growth for IPsec Virtual Private networks (VPNs) and IT Security Strategies, including off-the-shelf network security hardware and software, next-generation firewalls, and perimeter security gateways.
Their research perceives an acceleration in the network security infrastructure, involving both the firewall and network-based intrusion detection and prevention (IDS/IPS) markets, which are driving growth for DDoS prevention. They predict that the virtual security appliance market will go up as well with Software-as-a-Service (SaaS (News - Alert)), for complete endpoint, email, web, and network protection through the cloud.
As well as providing insightful reports on the network security market, the Infonetics’ quarterly report also explores new and emerging markets growing opportunities in the mobile device security market – where it forecasts growth in mobile client software and mobile device sales. And Infonectics Research stresses the need of protection from malware.
