IDC Names Fortinet Leader in Worldwide Unified Threat Management Market

Fortinet, a provider of network security and unified threat management (UTM) solutions, announced that new IDC (News - Alert) Tracker research data has positioned Fortinet as the number one vendor in worldwide UTM factory revenue for Q3 2011.

The data published on Dec. 23, 2011 marks the 23rd consecutive quarter in which Fortinet (News - Alert) has maintained its leadership position.

According to the latest IDC Worldwide December 2011 Security Appliance Tracker, Fortinet leads the market with 18 percent UTM share. Fortinet is also the overall leader in UTM factory revenue for Q3 2011.

IDC noted that Fortinet extended its overall market share as measured by revenue for UTM and achieved leadership in total units shipped in several countries in Q3 2011.

"IDC's data shows that the demand for multi-function security devices is growing in the enterprise and across all sectors and regions," said Ken Xie, founder, president and CEO of Fortinet, in a statement.

"Our ability to innovate and provide flexible, customizable solutions to address the security needs of our customers -- whether they need a firewall, a next-generation firewall or UTM -- will enable us to continue to be the leader in this growing market," Xie added.

According to IDC, UTM is as one of the leading growth drivers for network security. The market will be worth $10.4B by 2015. UTM security appliance products include multiple security features integrated into one device including the emerging next-generation firewall, and next-generation IPS segments.

Fortinet is growing significantly as Fortinet's FortiGate appliances are consolidating security functionality across wired and wireless architectures in enterprises, managed security service providers (MSSPs) and telecommunications carriers for higher performance and a lower total cost of ownership.

Recently, Fortinet announced that Siemens (News - Alert) Enterprise Communications, a provider of end-to-end enterprise communications, deployed several network security appliances from Fortinet to help secure its OpenScape Cloud Services. Siemens has installed multiple FortiGate-1240B network security appliances to help secure its cloud communications services.
