Falcon Electric Adds Advanced SNMP/HTTP Agent to UPS Communications

Falcon Electric, a manufacturer of power protection and conversion solutions, announced the expansion of its communication options with new remote control, monitoring and operations system shutdown solutions.

The Falcon MEGA SNMP/HTTP agent includes standalone external or an internal circuit card that fits into the communications option slot of any Falcon SG, SSG or FN Series rackmount and tower UPS.

The agent is designed to allow the connection to any Ethernet LAN. Two USB ports on the agent support the connection of an optional 802.11G Wi-Fi dongle offering wireless LAN connectivity. An optional GSM/GPRS 1900 cellular modem device can be used as an alternate to 802.11G. It will support wireless short message service (SMS) communications with the UPS using supplied SMS server software.

The benefits of an optional NetFeeler II device include remote temperature, humidity and water measurement. This module connects through an RJ45 connector located on the MEGA agent. The module further supports connection of up to two additional sensors.

“Our MEGA agent makes monitoring and managing multiple UPSs even easier -- whether a customer has ten Falcon UPS units or ten thousand, they can all be managed and monitored across any LAN using a Web browser or around the world using a smart phone or the Internet,” said Michael A. Stout, vice president of Engineering, Falcon, in a statement.

“We're proud of the agent's robust features, such as the ability to assign a static IP address, which saves users time and the ability to support VMware to easily shut down virtual machines in the cloud,” Stout added.

Recently, Falcon Electric announced that it has obtained Underwriters Laboratory (UL) listing for its CE approved 220Vac SSG Series UPS product line. These agency listings give users the ability to purchase a single UPS that has both listings. This translates to saving customers time and money by not having to buy two different units for U.S. and Europe.
