Cirtas Systems Provides Gateway to the Cloud

Storage for enterprise customers does not have to be painful.

Cirtas (News - Alert) provides solutions when storing data in the cloud. Using their products, cloud storage works like onsite enterprise storage arrays, the company said.

In a recent interview, Josh Goldstein, vice president of marketing at Cirtas, told Wikibon and SiliconAngle at the recent SNW Conference that many enterprise customers are in “pain” when it comes to storage. Storage can take up too much space, it is expensive and it is often too hard to back up.

“We help with all of those things,” Goldstein said in a recent video interview.

“We’re not about back-up to the cloud,” he adds. “We’re really about enabling primary storage in the cloud where you don’t have to back-up anymore.”

Looking ahead, companies are going to want to leverage cloud technology more than what they are able to do today, Goldstein said.

Cirtas was started in 2008. It is backed by Amazon, Bessemer Venture Partners, Lightspeed Venture Partners, NEA, and Shasta Venture Partners.

Just recently coming out of stealth mode, Goldstein says that “the response has been really fantastic.”

Cirtas is based in San Jose, Calif., and a lot of its technology is ground-breaking – it has never been done before. The company has about 30 employees and it is growing quickly in the last year.

In other recent news, Cirtas Systems announced a new technology validation report for its Bluejet Cloud Storage Controller from Taneja Group.

“After our hands-on evaluation, it is clear to us that the Bluejet Cloud Storage Controller delivers on all its promises and addresses the obstacles – like security, performance and actual storage TCO – that have previously deterred enterprises from taking advantage of storing data in the cloud,” Jeff Boles, senior analyst for Taneja Group, said in a company statement. “Cirtas has turned the pay-as-you-go storage from cloud providers into a uniquely cost effective and capable enterprise storage system. If you are trying to reinvent your cost of doing storage, Bluejet will significantly alter your storage system deployment and ongoing management costs.”

One of their products, Bluejet Cloud Storage Controllers – which is used in data centers – makes storage management simpler and reduces the cost of ownership, and solves problems with data backup and disaster recovery when it comes to mid-size and large-size enterprises, the company said in a statement. Cirtas supports several cloud provider platforms, such as: Amazon S3, EMC (News - Alert) Atmos and AT&T Synaptic Storage as a Service.

TMCnet explains that Cirtas’ Bluejet technology was developed through experience in WAN Optimization and data storage systems.
